COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES
This course is designed to provide the student with an overview of Canadian Business law and an understanding of basic legal terminology. The major emphasis is on contract law, since contracts are the foundation of all commercial transactions.Topics will include a study of the requirements for creating a legally binding contract, as well as some common errors to be avoided.Various types of contracts with special uses will also be examined. The law of contract enforcement will also be reviewed. The primary objective of the course is to give sufficient background in the law to be of assistance for whatever occupation the student may undertake. The outline is intended to support a course of various formats ranging from 36 to 45 classroom hours. The final examination is in addition to these classroom hours.

CLASS FORMAT

Classes take the form of lectures, discussions of text and problems. Class assignments will be handed out, as they will form part of the course evaluation. A final examination is given at the end of the course. Assignments are due as Follows:

TIME COMMITMENT

The following is an estimate of the time commitment required by a student to successfully complete this course:
(a) Class Time (13 Sessions/3 hours) 39 hours
(b) Class Preparation (Est 2 hours per class) 26 hours
(c) Take Home Assignments and assigned work to make up 20% of class mark 15 hours

EVALUATION

The final grade is based on:

Assignments 20%
Midterm 30%
Final Exam 50%
Total Course Mark 100%

NOTE: The final exam will be a combination of short answers, essay and short case study.

NO TEXTBOOKS, NOTES OR SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIAL MAY BE USED DURING THIS EXAMINATION.
